Sally Steeves

Coach for Team GIVER'

Sally was in the Red Freeski Academy her entire highschool career, growing from a young straggler to a team leader by her final year. She is a Rossland local who started skiing by following her ski patrol parents around RED, learning their secret stashes and setting up the occasional bamboo line. She started competing in junior big mountain freeski competitions at age 11. In her first competition, the head judge said that she would be “a threat to the future of freeskiing” and she took that to heart, winning 16 competitions over the next 6 years. Her biggest highlights include winning the North American Freeski Championships twice at Snowbird and Crystal Mountain. Sally is now a coach for the Red Mountain Freeski team.

Remi Drolet

Canadian National Ski Team & Harvard University

“I believe Seven Summits is an incredible opportunity if you
take full advantage of it. With good planning, it is also possible to make your workload and course schedule flexible to better accommodate other demanding areas of your life. Seven Summits has a lot to offer, and good communication is the key to unlocking its full potential. As an athlete, I believe Seven Summits worked well for me. and allowed me to chase my goals. I would like to ask that the centre continue to accommodate athletes as well as possible, by ensuring they have the ability to have flexible schedules and strong support from teachers as long as they work hard. In this way, I hope others can have the great experience I had.”

Sammie Gaul

Australian National Ski Team & University of canberra

“Skiing at Red involved a lot of fun, play, and experimentation outside the gates on challenging terrain with team mates who inspired one another to push our limits. Rossland was a great place to be a kid.  It is beautiful, the surrounding mountains provide a lot of opportunities to develop skills in mountain sports, and the people in Rossland are really cool and friendly. I loved the freedom that came with blended education and athletic training.”

Sage Stefani

University of Calgary ski Cross Team & Kinesiology

“The whole time I was on the team I had such a great time. I made great friends and relationships with the coaching staff and people in the ski community.  There were a variety of coaches that focused on individualized development of the all the athletes. At RED we have the face and back trail to train on which has great terrain to focus on our alpine skills. The values and skills I learned are ones I still apply to my career today.”

Sage Robine

NCAA Nordic Skiing & BS in molecular cell biology at the University of alaska

“The centre was a great place for me to develop the independent learning skills I currently use in University due to its online platform combined with seminars taught by 7S’s awesome teachers. It taught me how to manage my time wisely and learn independently, but also ask for help when needed.”

Anika Aschbacher

FIS Racing

“I’m now back home for the summer to earn some money so I can go back to Rossland in the fall! The  whole community instantly felt like home. I had such a good time with the Red Mountain Racers training and travelling around the FIS circuit with coach Mike Osatiuk, that I knew pretty soon that I wanted to go back. Now that I’ve graduated, I can put my full focus on skiing and Rossland is the best place to do that. I wish I would have another year of going to 7S. Coming from a person who’s been sick and tired of school since 9th grade, I think that’s a testament to how good a school it is.”

Alvise Scarabosio

St. Lawrence University Downhill Ski Team

“I joined the school as a member of the ski academy and I loved how Rossland and Seven Summits struck the perfect balance of maximum snow time and being immersed in an English-speaking community with a quality Academic Curriculum. The flexible, self-managed schedule allowed more time on the hill, training and competing over the winter, but also made me able to work in advance or catch up in the other seasons so that I could take 10 courses in one year and graduate.”

Devon Knox

Bike Coach

“I enjoyed the ability to work and pursue other passions such as travelling and sports while doing my schooling online and at my own pace. I learned how to self-motivate, hold myself accountable and pursue my Passions. Seven Summits was an incredible opportunity for growth in my developmental years — I learned a lot about myself and my surroundings and I was able to pursue interests and figure out what I wanted to do post high school.”

Kai Richter

NCAA Nordic Skiing

“I am proud to say that I am majoring in engineering, and have the opportunity to ski NCAA. If other students want to be surrounded by people and a situation that supports their dreams, then they should consider Seven Summits. Thank you so much to everyone at the Centre and the Rossland community.”

Samara Kuhn

Rotary Echange

“Over the past three years at Seven Summits,I’ve thrived in its blended learning environment. Being able to work at my own pace, while receiving my teachers’ help weekly, allowed me to graduate a year early while still being able to maintain an academic average with which I was happy. Everyone who works and helps in this school wants to see you succeed and they will do everything it takes to make sure that happens. This school creates such a wonderful environment for athletes because, for those missing a lot of school, Seven Summits is here to accommodate your schedule in a way that other schools are unable to do.”
